The category Food & Drink, the best restaurants in Sicily (and more)

The category Food & Drink, the best restaurants in Sicily (and more)

Several years ago, when we started letting holiday homes, apartments and villas in Sicily through our website on-Sicily.com, we wanted to offer the most extensive service possible. We thought it was a shame that on our holidays it took us such a long time to find that one great restaurant (and we usually found it only at the end of our holiday). Because many of our guests shared the same experience, we decided to start pointing them to the best restaurants in the area. Instead of asking for a commission for sending these restaurants lots of guests, we arranged for our guests something extra, so they could enjoy both delicious Sicilian dishes and a nice discount, a bottle of wine or a homemade dessert!

This concept didn’t change when we created the onsicilycard: We’ve only selected participants who offer an excellent quality and service, so our digital guide and card differs from many other cards and various (paper) travel guides, where offering quality is not a requirement to participate or to be listed.

What can you expect in the category Food & Drink?

1. From bars to restaurants

In the category Food & Drink you’ll not only find restaurants, but also bars, agriturismi, bakeries, pasticcerie (“pastry shops”) and gelaterie (where you can buy delicious, fresh Sicilian ice cream).

2. Something for everyone!

Whether you like “cucina casareccia” (simple, honest, homemade style food) or you prefer refined dishes with excellent wines, the onsicilycard offers something for everyone!

The Sicilian cuisine offers many great seafood dishes, but there are also many participants where you can enjoy delicious meat dishes or pizzas baked in a wood burning oven.

If you prefer vegetarian or gluten free dishes, you can use the filtering options under “Advanced Search” on the page with all our participants. Here you can also filter on child friendly, romantic, free Wi-Fi, sea views, etc. You can also filter on price per dinner (this option is visible as soon as you (also) search in the category Food & Drink), because we’ve selected participants in each price category from a small “mom and dad restaurant” to restaurants that offer fine food in a luxurious setting.

On the information pages of all participants you’ll find several pictures that will help you choose the right place for you.

4. The address and exact location

The addresses of all the participants in Sicily are mentioned on their information pages. However, since Sicilian addresses are often difficult to find, or sometimes can’t be found at all (even with a satnav!), we have also mentioned their exact location. If you visit our website with your smartphone, you can easily navigate to (the entrance of) all restaurants, bars, agriturismi and all other participants in the category Food & Drink!

You must be logged in to be able to navigate to participants in the onsicilycard. You can login after you’ve ordered an onsicilycard online.

5. The opening hours

Of course we also have listed the opening hours. So you’ll immediately see at what time you’ll be welcome for lunch or dinner and on which day(s) of the week or in which period the restaurants or bars are closed.

NB The opening hours are only visible when you’re logged in. You can login after you’ve ordered an onsicilycard online.

6. Discounts and other perks

The participants in the category Food & Drink offer cardholders a discount and/or other perks, like a bottle of Sicilian wine or a homemade dessert. On every participant’s information page under “Special for cardholders” you’ll see a description of what will be offered if you show your onsicilycard.

So, in combination with the exclusive, up-to-date information for cardholders about festivals, fun markets, small concerts or theater performances and the comprehensive information about well known and lesser-known cultural sites and nature reserves in the category Nature & Culture, the onsicilycard website is an extensive, digital travel guide, to help you get more out of your holiday in Sicily!
